Abate Noise From a Fan Motor

Noise from fan motors can cause distractions within a home or business. The amount of noise depends on the size and power of the fan motor. You can abate the noise from a fan motor a number of ways. 

Wrap the fan motor in glass wool. If you are soundproofing an outdoor industrial fan, wrap the wool 5 inches thick and cover it with GI sheets. For soundproofing in the home wrap according to your judgment. Consider the size and shape of the fan motor when wrapping. Test the fan to see if the glass wool abated the noise.

Install heavy walls between you and your fan motor.

Retard the vibrations of the fan motor. Touching an object to the fan motor will absorb the vibrations and abate the noise.
